Who We Are

Built by someone who works on decks all day

We build and repair decks for homeowners around Deer Lodge, from a small platform off a mobile home to a wraparound deck with built-in benches. Most people who call us have one of two problems: they want a deck that doesn't exist yet, or they've got one that's started to sag, splinter, or wobble when you walk on it. Winters here are hard on wood and hardware both, and a deck framed wrong in July usually shows it by the second or third winter.

We set footings below the frost line instead of just below grade, so frost heave doesn't lift a post and throw the whole deck out of level. We use joist hangers and exterior-rated structural screws, not just nailed lumber, because nails back out over a few freeze-thaw cycles. If you already have a deck that's failing, we'll tell you straight whether it needs new boards or the framing underneath is the real problem.

What people said afterwards

Our deck in Deer Lodge had a soft spot near the stairs for two years before I called. Turned out a joist was rotted through, glad we caught it before someone went through the boards.

Deck Repair · Butte, MT
Had to reschedule once because of rain but they let me know the day before, not the morning of. Deck looks way less gray now.
Mike D.
Deck Staining & Sealing · Anaconda, MT
Our place outside Anaconda has a steep slope out back and they figured out stairs that actually work with it. Took a bit longer than I expected but worth it.

Common Questions

Questions we get a lot

Questions people ask before they call.

Do you give free estimates for deck projects?
Yes, a deck builder should walk the site and give a written quote before any work starts. That means measuring the footprint, checking ground conditions, and going over what materials the homeowner wants.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, general liability insurance is carried and certificates are available on request. Homeowners should ask for proof of insurance before hiring any deck builder.
How soon can you start a deck project?
Start dates depend on the season and how full the schedule already is, and a real date should come with the quote, not a vague window. Spring and early summer tend to book up fastest in Montana because people want a deck finished before peak summer heat.
What areas do you serve?
Deer Lodge and Powell County are the core service area, along with Anaconda, Butte, and the smaller towns in between. Homeowners outside that range should still call and ask, since some jobs are worth the drive.
Do you work on mobile homes and rental properties, or just single-family houses?
Deck builders can work on mobile homes, rentals, and single-family houses alike. Framing details change a little depending on what the deck attaches to, but the build process stays the same.
Will you take on a small repair job, or only full builds?
Small repair jobs are common work for a deck builder, a rotted board, a loose railing, a step pulled away from the stringer. Not every call needs an entirely new deck.
How do I get started?
Describe the job over the phone or through a contact form, then a site visit gets scheduled to look at the space in person. A written quote follows before anything gets ordered.
What does a new deck typically cost?
Cost depends mostly on square footage, decking material, and how complicated the framing is, stairs, multiple levels, and built-in features all add cost. Composite decking runs more up front than pressure-treated lumber but needs less upkeep over the years.
Do you require a deposit before starting work?
Most deck projects require a deposit to cover material costs before lumber gets ordered, with the balance due when work finishes. The exact split should be spelled out in the written quote.
What happens if it rains or snows during the project?
Framing and decking work stops in heavy rain or snow because wet lumber and wet footing holes cause problems later. Weather delays should be built into the schedule and communicated as soon as they're expected, not discovered on-site.
